Joel Lenius is the Owner and Managing Director of Skate to Excel Inc., the Technical Director for Hockey Edmonton, the program director for the Edmonton Junior Oilers, and the Head Coach of the U18 AAA Junior Oilers White team. He is a Hockey Canada NCCP High Performance 1 Coach, a Hockey Canada NCCP Certified and Licensed Skills Coach, and a trained NCCP Master Coach Developer.

 

Joel has contracted skills coaching services to organizations such as: Edmonton Oilers, Hockey Canada National Women’s Program, Team Alberta, Hockey Canada, Hockey Alberta, University of Alberta, MacEwan University, NAIT, Under Armor, amongst others. Skate to Excel Inc. offers individual, small group, and full-sized classes to various AAA, junior, post-secondary, professional, and NHL athletes in Western Canada – with devotion to purposeful, innovative, and progressive repetitions of technical and tactical skills.

 

After playing in the OPJHL, U Sports, and European professional leagues, Joel began his hockey development/coaching career as the Manager and Director of Programs at National Training Rinks in Richmond Hill, Ontario while also coaching various AAA teams in the GTHL. He later joined Skate Canada as the National Power Skating Senior Coordinator, leading the development of the CanPowerSkate program.

 

Joel is also heavily involved in coach education and program development. Joel has taught various NCCP Coach Stream and Instructional Stream clinics for Hockey Canada, Skate Canada, Hockey Alberta, and the OHF while also speaking at several conferences. He has written numerous skill development articles and is currently writing a book on skating development. He has facilitated development of high-performance programs such as FXH, the Western Flyers Development Program, and the Edmonton Junior Oilers Program, in addition to various developmental programs for the Edmonton Oilers, Hockey Canada, Hockey Alberta, Hockey Edmonton, the Chinese Ice Hockey Association, and the Mexico Ice Hockey Federation.
